David Dodwell, the visionary
behind The Reefs Club

It all began 35 years ago, when David Dodwell fell in love with The Reefs. A graduate of Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration, Mr. Dodwell served in various positions at the hotel and eventually became president.
In addition to being the majority owner, Mr. Dodwell has served as a member of the Bermuda Parliament and spent several years as Minister of Tourism.

Through constant innovation, enhancements and dedication to guest service, The Reefs is now widely recognized as the best Bermuda hotel. But, Mr. Dodwell’s dreams for The Reefs continued to grow.

In 2003, The Reefs acquired the beautiful piece of undeveloped land next door to the hotel overlooking The Reefs' secluded pink sand beach. Mr. Dodwell had a vision for the property. Extend the hotel’s award-winning hospitality to a limited number of luxury private club residences and offer ownership at a price that matches today’s lifestyle.

The world’s first private residence club was introduced at Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah in 1991. Prior to then, skiers paid as much as $6,000,000 to own a Deer Valley vacation home they occupied only four to six weeks a year. The cost of ownership compared to use was extraordinarily high.  

Sophisticated vacationers, including those who could afford a Deer Valley home, quickly embraced the Deer Valley Club. It combined shared luxury home ownership with the services and amenities of a fine hotel.

The club filled a niche among discriminating skiers who saw it as a smart way to own in Deer Valley for the vacation time they desired at a fraction of the cost. This new form of ownership is now the fastest growing segment of the luxury vacation home market.

Construction began on The Reefs Club oceanfront residences in November 2007. Mr. Dodwell’s vision became a reality in 2009 when The Reefs Club opened to the delight of new owners.
