Trade a Tractor for a Luxurious Bermuda Vacation at The Reefs Hotel & Club
The Reefs Hotel & Club in Bermuda Appoints New Spa Director arrow

Tractor on the beachTalk about a once-in-a-life travel deal. One lucky person can turn their new tractor into a memorable vacation at Bermuda's best hotel. That's right. The Reefs Hotel & Club wants to trade a tractor for a vacation for up to six people in the new private Reefs Club residences at the world-renowned beachfront property.

"Every morning, we rake and groom our private pink sand beach to keep it pristine for our guests. It takes quite a bit of manpower and the aid of a sturdy tractor," says Ben Tutt, Managing Director of The Reefs Hotel & Club. "Unfortunately our tractor called it quits and being on an island has made it difficult to find a good replacement."

With limited on-island availability for new equipment, The Reefs Hotel & Club is making this unusual offer to the public. Anyone with a new tractor that meets the resort's requirements can trade it for a vacation in an elegantly appointed three-bedroom residence at The Reefs Club. The relaxing vacation is inclusive of daily breakfast, afternoon tea and gourmet dinner nightly.

The traded tractor should be equivalent to a Kubota B2320 tractor and at a minimum:

  • New or nearly new in excellent condition
  • Have a front loader
  • Have a trailer hitch
  • Have 23.0 horse power

The length of the vacation at The Reefs Hotel & Club will be based on the value of the tractor. Rental of a three-bedroom Club residence for six people costs $1,935 per night in high season and includes daily breakfast, afternoon tea and gourmet dinner.

Individuals interested in this unique Bermuda vacation offer can send photos and tractor specifications to The Reefs Hotel & Club at TheReefsTractor@gmail.com.

The recipient of numerous accolades for his unique concepts, Haddad brings more than 30 years of culinary mastery to The Reefs. Haddad's extensive background includes stints at St. James Club Resort in Antigua, L'Escoffier Restaurant of The Beverly Hilton Hotel, and the Abbey Restaurant and Nikolai's Roof in Atlanta. A chef by training and entrepreneur in spirit, Haddad headed up the kitchen in his namesake, Philippe's Bistro, also in Atlanta, for six years. Haddad's most recent accomplishment was leading the kitchen at Atlanta's highly regarded, Country Club of the South, where he established a culinary program winning praise from both members and media alike. Haddad has garnered a loyal following from his time spent in restaurants as well as at acclaimed food and wine events across the U.S.

Haddad began his culinary career in his native Belgium, where he trained with Master Chef Eddie Van Maele. After gaining valuable experience in Belgium, France and England, Haddad moved to the U.S. in 1983. Since that time, he has held leadership positions overseeing culinary teams coast to coast. In 2003 and 2004, Haddad had the supreme pleasure and opportunity to orchestrate two U.S. Presidential dinners in Atlanta for Former President Bill Clinton. A James Beard Award winner and member since 1999, he has also been recognized by Ferdinand Metz, President Emeritus of the Culinary Institute of America, as outstanding chef 2003–2004. Spa Expert and Design Team to Re-Create La Serena Spa at The Reefs Spa Expert and Design Team to Re-Create La Serena Spa at The Reefs

The Reefs, widely recognized as Bermuda's best hotel, announces that Nicolay Kreidler and Vision Design have teamed up to re-create La Serena Spa to open in June. With the latest approach to relaxation, and a design to match, La Serena Spa delivers on its namesake promise.

Spa Expert Nicolay Kreidler of iSpad and Spa College is working his magic to develop a program for La Serena at The Reefs that incorporates the spa experience as an integral aspect of the vacation, similar to how guests view dining. He emphasizes that the spa should be enjoyed not just once but throughout the stay, enhancing the travel experience, maximizing the results of a vacation or business trip and augmenting health, wellness and beauty.

"We are thrilled to have the expertise of Nicolay Kreidler shaping our approach with the new La Serena Spa," says Managing Director of The Reefs, Ben Tutt. "Mr. Kreidler's knowledge of mind-body wellness is superior and he understands the intricacies involved in spa dynamics."

As the new spa menu unfolds, La Serena will include eco-centric treatments using natural indigenous ingredients tapping into the abundant island flora. Kreidler is coaching the on-site spa professionals, all of whom enjoy a dedicated following, to enhance their individual approaches to meet each guest's needs. "A Manhattanite requires a different approach from a Bermudian or a Brit," says Kreidler. "At La Serena, we will have a tailored approach to match the style and needs of each of our guests individually."

As the seasons change, so will the spa options, to complement the weather as well as culturally what's happening on the island. Committed to sustainability, Kreidler elaborates that plans for La Serena will include using products in a way to minimize the impact on the environment. In sum, Kreidler offers a multi-layered process to ensure the ultimate in healing and renewal for each individual in the context of the environment — culturally, climatically and environmentally.

In tandem with Kreidler, Vision Design, the luxury hotel design firm of Dallas, has created an inspiring scheme incorporating water elements to encourage absolute relaxation. A cascading water feature serves as a focal point of a central court, which then opens through a moongate out to the recovery terrace with water views of the spectacular Atlantic Ocean. La Serena, perched above the surf, offers an endless view of the horizon, mesmerizing in its infinite beauty, and enhancing the experience for guests as they rest following their treatments.

The completion of the adjacent Reefs Club has allowed for the expansion of La Serena Spa. The Reefs Club opens to the delight of owners in July. A private club of just 19 luxurious, fully-furnished two- and three-bedroom beachfront residences, The Reefs Club is offered for sale on an affordable fractional ownership basis. For a limited time until the residences are sold, a few will be available for a one-time-only vacation rental.

The Reefs features three gourmet restaurants, a secluded pink sand beach, snorkeling and tennis, and is convenient to nearby world-class golf and diving.

08/08/2008 The Reefs in Bermuda Celebrates 3 Generations of Dodwells The Reefs in Bermuda Celebrates 3 Generations of Dodwells

The Reefs prides itself for its strong sense of family, with more than half its guests returning each year and multiple generations of families on staff. It is this close community that provides the hospitality for which the resort is famous and which makes guests "feel perfectly at ease."

In 2008 The Reefs welcomed David Dodwell Jr. to the management team as Director of Rooms, where he joins his father, David Dodwell, president, who has been with The Reefs for 35 years. "I am absolutely thrilled that David has decided to return to Bermuda to work with us at The Reefs. The Reefs family continues to grow, and David will fit in perfectly with the rest of the caring staff," says David Dodwell, the elder.

Managing Director Ben Tutt agrees, "David already has garnered a solid background in hotel management, and since returning to The Reefs has jumped right in, working in every department to get to know the staff and the existing processes."

David recently completed his master's degree in hospitality management from the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration. In recent years, he has worked at hotels in Boston, California and Oregon. He also spent two years at 9 Beaches in Bermuda.

08/05/2008 Bermuda Resort Unveils Two New Restaurants and New Kitchens Bermuda Resort Unveils Two New Restaurants and New Kitchens

The kitchens and restaurants at The Reefs have undergone an "extreme makeover," and the result is nothing short of spectacular. More than $3 million have been invested in the complete redevelopment of the kitchens alone at The Reefs. The two expanded and redesigned restaurants, Ocean Echo and Royston's designed by Vision Design (Rosewood's Mansion on Turtle Creek), have just reopened.

The new kitchens, designed by William Caruso and replete with more than $1 million in state-of-the-art appliances and operational flows honed by Baring Industries, will ensure superlative service. The entire culinary undertaking is being directed by The Reefs Escoffier Chef Laurent Ajas. Chef Laurent, solidly grounded in the basics of fine French cuisine draws on his experiences from around the world — Toulouse, Cannes, Ireland, Grand Cayman, Luxembourg, Thailand and Bermuda — to provide guests innovative international dining. "The hotel always has been famous for its dining, and now Chef Laurent will have a platform to take gourmet dining to the highest level," says Managing Director Ben Tutt.

Ocean Echo, located in the newly renovated south side of the main clubhouse, feels like an ocean lookout with a large curved window-wall providing nearly 180-degree views of the horizon from its perch high on the cliffs. Designed to be Bermuda's most serene fine dining experience, Ocean Echo features colors and materials chosen to enhance the native Bermudian architectural elements of coral stone and high peaked ceiling with cedar trusses. Silvery blue-green tones for the furnishings are accented by a select collection of Bermudian works of art and nautical antiques.

Bermudian classic starters like Cod fish cakes served on a chayote squash slaw and Bermuda fish chowder are offered alongside salmon "gravlax" or asparagus with wasabi hollandaise. The main course will feature a daily fresh Bermudian delicacy as well as enchanting pasta and risotto dishes, pan fried rock fish, grilled beef tenderloin and seared maple duck breast. The menu has mouth watering descriptions. Inside Ocean Echo jackets are recommended but not required; patio dining is slightly less formal.

Royston's, on the north side of the clubhouse, has the feel of a supper club, a huge fireplace, beamed ceiling and views of the display kitchen where chefs plate their creations. Attention to detail is apparent in the lighting – showcasing custom fixtures and a wall of candle niches with glowing alabaster shades to create a warm and convivial atmosphere.

The ambiance is casual affluence, staying true to the traditions of Bermudian hospitality that have been developed over the last 60 years. Food is ample in portion and elegant. The supper club feel is reflected in the menu with items like Gosling soaked pork chops and Steak Wellington.

Royston’s accents The Reefs' impressive wine list, by featuring an adjoining Wine Room, built around a custom-built, temperature-controlled, mahogany wine storage fixture holding over 1,200 bottles. The Wine Room, with Bermuda stone on the walls, can be separated from Royston’s by double doors to serve as your private dining room. After a dinner at Royston's a nice Cognac would be the norm.

The popular Reefs beachside dining venue, Coconuts, has been cited as "best place to fall in love in Bermuda." Its private pink sand beach, available for reservations May through November, provides the island's most romantic dining beneath the stars, complete with tiki torches and the rhythm of the waves.
